Seax, York (Coppergate-2833), 9th-10th Century
Pattern welded iron and steel blade with a tool steel cutting edge. Brass bolster and end cap. Stacked handle alternating walnut wood and bone. A short but thick backed blade with a stacked handle. The original was found with two bone spacers and so these have been included in this reproduction. An ideal all purpose knife with the thick back giving it resilience and the waisted handle being comfortable and secure in the hand.
