Seax, York (Coppergate-2809), 10th-11th Century
Pattern welded blade of iron and steel with a tool steel cutting edge. The handle has a brass bolster and is made of yew.
With a clearly visible striped pattern on the blade and with a sweeping point, this knife means business. A large blade but not too large so as to make it unwieldy as an every day/utility knife, it is very handy to have around the campsite. Despite its size, it is very light and wonderfully balanced and can find its place performing a variety of uses.
Total Length: 222mm
Blade Length: 122mm
Blade Width at Handle: 19mm
Blade Thickness at Handle: 2.5mm
